The Capital One Venture Rewards card has a new welcome bonus just in time for the summer holidays.

This week, Capital One announced that new Venture cardholders can earn 75,000 miles after spending $4,000 in the first three months. The new offer is 15,000 more miles than the old one: 60,000 miles after you spend $3,000 within the first three months of account opening. That’s up to an additional $150 for travel if you can meet the new spending limit.

The $95 annual fee Venture card’s new 75,000-mile bonus put its welcome offer on par with Capital One’s most premium travel card option: the Capital One Venture X credit card, which has a fee much higher annual $395. With Venture X, you’ll earn 75,000 bonus miles after spending the same $4,000 within three months of account opening.

Capital One’s latest enhanced offer is among some welcome bonus increases we’ve seen lately, like the new 80,000 Chase Sapphire Preferred point bonus offer and the 100,000 Marriott Bonvoy Brillant Card bonus point offer. If you’re considering a new travel credit card, a great welcome bonus could help you save on your next trip and earn points toward future travel.

Here’s everything you need to know about the latest Venture Card welcome bonus and other benefits the card includes:

How to use the Capital One Venture credit card

The Capital One Venture Card is one of our best travel credit card options. Among travel cards, it also carries a relatively low annual fee of $95 per year.

We like the Venture card for its ability to earn travel rewards on your everyday spend, with 2x set miles on every purchase. Additionally, you can earn 5x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and now you can also earn 5x miles when you book rental cars through the Turo app or Turo.com.

The card also includes up to a $100 credit toward Global Entry or TSA PreCheck every four years, no foreign transaction fees, and two complimentary visits to Capital One Lounge locations annually.

How to maximize your Capital One Venture 75,000 mile welcome bonus

According to Capital One, the Venture card’s new 75,000-mile welcome offer is worth $750 when redeemed for travel.

To earn the bonus, you’ll need to spend $4,000 within three months of opening the account, or an average of $1,333 each month. If that’s still not within your regular budget, you might consider applying when you’re ready to book a vacation with your card or make another big purchase you’ve already saved up and can afford.

Plus, you’ll earn rewards as you work toward the bonus. The Venture card earns 2x flat miles on any purchase, so $4,000 in spending equals 8,000 miles earned, or another $80 to travel on top of your bonus. Just make sure the expense is within your budget to avoid overspending and debt.

When you’re ready to redeem your rewards, you can use them to cover previous travel purchases made with your card (within 90 days of purchase) and also to book travel through Capital One Travel. Other redemption options include cash in the form of a check or account credit and gift cards, though Capital One says the value of these options may vary.

Another way to get the most value from your miles is to transfer them to a Capital One partner. Here is a list of Capital One travel partners, to whom you can transfer miles on a 1:1 basis:

  • Aeromexico Club Premier
  • Airplane
  • asian miles
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • election privileges
  • Emirates to the sky
  • Etihad Guest
  • Finnair Plus
  • blue flight
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • TAP Miles&Go
  • Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles
  • virgin red

You can also transfer miles to EVA Air Infinity MileageLands at a 2:1.5 ratio and Accor Live Limitless at a 2:1 transfer ratio.

Deciding between Capital One Venture and Venture X

Now that the Capital One Venture and Venture X Rewards cards have the same welcome offer, other card details like annual fees, rewards and extra benefits can help you decide which is better for you.

The Venture Card comes with a $95 annual fee and earns 2x flat miles on every purchase, plus 5x miles on hotels and rental cards booked through Capital One. If you’re looking for a travel card that can help you earn miles for traveling with your daily expenses, this is a great low annual fee option. The Venture X has a higher annual rate of $395 and a few extra perks: On top of the same 2x flat miles on every purchase, you’ll earn unlimited 10x miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel and 5x miles on flights booked through Capital One Travel.

pro tip

Now Venture and Venture X cardholders can earn rewards when booking cars with Turo, a car-sharing rental company. Venture cardholders can earn 5 times more miles through the Turo app or Turo.com, and Venture X cardholders can earn 10 times more miles, through May 2023.

If you travel frequently, the Venture X card has more luxury travel perks to offset your $395 annual fee. You’ll get a $300 travel statement credit annually, Priority Pass Select airport lounge membership, up to $100 for TSA Precheck/Global Entry, unlimited access to Capital One Lounge and 10,000 bonus miles after each account anniversary.

If you’re not a frequent flyer or don’t want to pay a high annual fee, you can choose Capital One Venture to get the same welcome bonus and still earn travel rewards on everyday purchases. On the other hand, if you’re an avid traveler who plans to use all the benefits of the card or want to maximize the rewards to earn free flights or hotels, you can take advantage of Venture X.
